JPG to PNG
Convert JPG photos to lossless PNG in your browser. Batch, free, no upload.
Convert JPG to PNG
This tool turns a JPEG photo into a lossless PNG. JPEG is deliberately lossy — it throws away fine detail to keep files small, and every re-save loses a little more. PNG stores every pixel exactly, so it is the right output when you need a clean, re-editable or transparent-friendly file.
When JPG to PNG is useful
- Editing further. Saving a JPG as PNG stops the "generation loss" that happens when you re-save a JPEG repeatedly.
- Screenshots and documents. PNG keeps sharp text and UI edges free of JPEG artefacts.
- Before adding transparency. PNG supports an alpha channel, so it is the format to use if you plan to cut out a background later.
How to use
- Drop one or more JPG/JPEG files.
- Convert — output is lossless PNG.
- Download the PNG files. Note the size: PNG is usually larger than the original JPG, because it keeps every detail.
Good to know
- Converting JPG to PNG does not restore quality already lost — it simply stops any further loss.
- PNG files are big for photos. If you need a small file that still looks great, consider [WebP](/tool/jpg-to-webp) instead.
- Everything runs locally in your browser: no upload, no account, no watermark, up to 30 MB per file.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG? PNG is lossless, so it stores far more data.
- Will the image get sharper? No — it only prevents further loss.
- Can I batch-convert? Yes.
- Is it free? Yes, no sign-up.
FAQ
Is the conversion lossless?
Yes. Decoding is lossless and PNG re-encoding is lossless, so the output contains exactly the pixels that were in the JPG. The original JPEG compression artefacts are already baked in and cannot be removed.
Will the PNG file be smaller?
Usually not. PNG is great for flat graphics but heavier for photos. For smaller photo files use the PNG to WebP or JPG to WebP converters.
Do you keep my images?
No. Conversion happens locally in your browser; no image is uploaded to our server, and nothing is written to a database.
